Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Supporting Your Natural Look

At Equinox Beauty & Cosmetic Clinic, we understand that fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of ageing and expression — they often tell your story and create warmth in the face. Some people are comfortable with these changes, while others look for ways to soften them, especially when lines remain visible at rest.

In recent years, more people — including those in their 20s and 30s — have considered treatments for fine lines as part of a preventative approach. At Equinox, our focus is on safe, minimal, and tailored care, supported by qualified health professionals with over 15 years of experience and ongoing follow-up to ensure your comfort and results.

If you have previously received treatment at Equinox and already have a plan in place, you may book directly.
If you are new to this treatment, please book a consultation first so our clinicians can guide you appropriately.

Understanding Facial Lines

Expressions such as smiling, frowning, or squinting naturally create what are called dynamic lines — those that only appear with movement. Over time, these can become static lines, which remain visible even when the face is at rest.

Treatments for fine lines and wrinkles may help reduce the activity of certain muscles, which in turn can soften the appearance of dynamic lines and support the skin as it ages. With regular and carefully managed treatment, this effect can be maintained over time.

Treatment Areas That May Be Considered

During consultation, areas that may be suitable for treatment include:

  • Lines between the eyebrows
  • Horizontal forehead lines
  • Lines beside the eyes

Other areas may also be discussed, such as nose creases, lip lines, chin, jawline, smile-related changes, or excessive sweating. Suitability is always determined during consultation with a health professional.

What We Do

What Does the Treatment Involve?

After the initial consultation and treatment plan, the actual procedure may take 10-20 minutes.  Precise amounts of the product are then used, which our medical cosmetic staff will discuss with you in the clinic.

What are the Side Effects?

Any procedure carries risks and the possibility of side effects; however, side effects are usually temporary and localised to the area treated. Possible side effects include headache, pain, burning or stinging, bruising, swelling or redness at the treated area. You will be able to go through all possible side effects with our health professionals at your consultation.

What to Expect

Process

After your consultation, treatment usually takes 10–20 minutes. Small, precise amounts are used according to your plan.

Risks and Side Effects

As with all medical procedures, risks exist. Temporary effects may include headache, redness, swelling, or bruising at the treated site. These usually resolve quickly. Your clinician will explain all potential risks and outcomes during consultation.

Aftercare

Most people can return to daily activities immediately. However, we recommend:

  • Avoiding strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours
  • Not rubbing or massaging treated areas
  • Remaining upright for at least 4 hours
  • Avoiding saunas, spas, or facials for 24 hours

Personalised aftercare will be provided following your appointment.

Results

Changes may begin to appear within a few days, with the most noticeable effect often visible around two weeks. Results generally last 3–4 months, although this varies between individuals.

Have You Considered Other Treatments?

Some clients choose to combine wrinkle treatments with other options that may enhance results. At Equinox Clinic, we also provide:

  • PDO Threads (Class III medical device)
  • PRP Rejuvenation
  • Skin Booster Mesotherapy
  • Laser Rejuvenation
  • O₂ Therapy
  • Dermapen / Skin Needling
  • Plasma Pen (skin tightening and lifting)

Your consultation will help determine which approach is most suitable for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes fine lines and wrinkles?

Fine lines and wrinkles develop naturally as part of ageing. They are influenced by repeated facial movements such as frowning, smiling, or squinting, as well as environmental factors like sun exposure and lifestyle habits. Over time, dynamic lines that only appear with expression can become static lines visible even at rest. Treatments available at Equinox Clinic may help soften their appearance and support overall skin quality, allowing for a refreshed but natural look.

How do these treatments work?

These treatments work by reducing the activity of certain facial muscles that contribute to visible expression lines. This gives the skin an opportunity to recover, softening existing wrinkles and helping to prevent new ones from forming. At Equinox, our registered nurses and prescribing doctors personalise each plan to ensure results look natural. The focus is on maintaining facial expression while supporting smoother, more youthful-looking skin in a safe and controlled manner.

When will I see results and how long will they last?

Most people begin noticing changes within 3–5 days, with the most visible results appearing around two weeks. On average, the effect lasts for about 3–4 months, although this varies between individuals depending on lifestyle, metabolism, and treatment history. Many clients choose to book treatments seasonally to maintain their results. During your consultation, our team will guide you on what timeframe is realistic for you.

Is the procedure painful?

Discomfort is generally minimal. The treatment involves very fine injections, often described as a quick pinch or sting. Our clinicians use techniques to ensure comfort, such as applying ice to the area before treatment. The process is typically complete within 30 minutes, making it manageable for most people, even with busy lifestyles. Any sensitivity that occurs is usually mild and resolves quickly.

What are the risks or side effects?

As with all medical procedures, there are some risks. The most common side effects include mild bruising, redness, tenderness, or swelling at the injection site. These effects are temporary and usually resolve within a few days. Rarely, treatment may affect nearby muscles, which is also temporary. At Equinox Clinic, your consultation includes a thorough discussion of all risks and benefits, so you can make an informed decision before proceeding.

Who is a good candidate for this treatment?

Most adults concerned with either early expression lines or more established static wrinkles may be suitable candidates. Younger individuals sometimes consider treatment as a preventative option, while older clients may be more focused on softening visible lines. Suitability depends on your overall health, expectations, and any medical conditions, which will be reviewed during your consultation with our qualified staff.

Can this be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Many clients combine fine line treatments with other skin therapies such as PDO threads, PRP, laser rejuvenation, or dermal needling. This can provide a more comprehensive approach to supporting both skin structure and texture. At Equinox, your consultation will cover how treatments can complement each other, allowing you to plan for the best possible outcome while maintaining natural expression.

Why don’t clinics advertise Botox anymore?

Australian regulations set by the TGA and AHPRA prohibit clinics from advertising prescription-only medicines, including mentioning brand names like Botox in public materials. This ensures people make healthcare decisions based on professional consultation, not advertising. Instead, clinics use general terms such as “anti-wrinkle treatments” to describe these services. During a private consultation, your clinician can discuss the specific products and treatment options available to you, including their benefits, limitations, and expected outcomes, ensuring the decision is informed, personalised, and safe.

Why can’t I see before-and-after photos?

In Australia, clinics are not allowed to use before-and-after photos for prescription cosmetic treatments under TGA and AHPRA advertising guidelines. This restriction exists to prevent unrealistic expectations being created through marketing images. Instead of relying on photos, our clinicians provide clear, realistic guidance during your consultation, discussing what may be achievable based on your unique features. This ensures you receive information tailored to your circumstances and can make treatment decisions with accurate expectations, rather than based on marketing comparisons.

Important Information About Regulations

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) regulate how cosmetic medical treatments can be advertised. We follow these guidelines carefully, which means we cannot:

  • Display before-and-after photos of prescription treatments
  • Share testimonials or client reviews online
  • Use language that exaggerates results
  • Mention prescription product brand names in advertising
  • Offer discounts that encourage unnecessary or urgent treatment

At Equinox Clinic, your safety and informed decision-making come first. Consultations are private, supportive, and tailored to your needs.
